Conveying of Ready Mix Concrete; Transit Mixers:
- These are trucks with a mixer having revolving drum mounted on it. It rotates at a slow speed and keeps the concrete in plastic state while being transported from the batching plant to the concrete pour site.
- The capacity ranges from 2 to 12meter cube. Some transit mixers are also equipped with a concrete conveying pump and placing boom.
- The transit mixers are the truck units used to supply freshly mixed concrete to a job site situated away from the site of central batching and mixing plant.
- Mixing of concrete is done in a mixer attached to a truck and therefore this combined unit is called as Transit Mixer and agitator trucks or simply transit mixer.
- Aggregates along with cement and water is charged into the mixer at a central batching plant with mixing to be done en-route to the job.
- If the unit is used to haul ready mixed concrete which requires agitation en-route to avoid the possibility of segregation of it, the unit is called agitator.
